Description / Notes: Gyrotonic is a fascinating, dynamic and therapeutic system of intelligent movement which is especially beneficial for rehabilitating and mobilising the spine as well as the shoulder and pelvic girdles. If you are a Yoga practitioner, a freediver, an athlete of any kind, or a desk-bound junkie, Gyrotonic is exactly that - an unbelievable wonder-working TONIC to your practice especially for areas in your body that feel 'stuck' or which need to be mobilised and freed-up more. The client is guided into movement on a one-to-one basis with the instructor, using spirals and waves through the spine and body. This system encourages the fluid elongating and nourishing of the entire fascial network of the body, breaking down scar tissue, aiding lymphatic drainage, the pulsation of blood through tissues, and fascilitating movement in areas which have become brittle, immobile or stagnated. It is an energetic system with its energetic roots in Qi Gong, TaiChi and Yoga, and physical roots in pilates, gymnastics, dance and in the natural movement of animals, such as the dolphin, the monkey and the cat. It is a fascinating energy-based movement system that needs to be experienced; to be tasted by the body-mind, to know how it feels. I would urge you to come and try it, with curiosity and an open mind! Teacher Info Map

Meditation
Description / Notes: Mindfulness Meditation Guided Meditation presented in a secular way and with practice arising out of the cutting-edge knowledge of the brain's plasticity due to advances in neuroscience and fMRI scans of the brain of seasoned meditators v non-meditators. The actual practice however, as all secular Mindfulness practices are, is based in the Buddhist Meditation practices of Shamatha (Calm-Abiding or Single-pointed Meditation) with Vipassana (Pali) Vipashyana (SAnskrit, which is Insight or 'Clear-seeing' with Compassion. The secular Mindfulness practice has been developed over the past 35 years by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn (PhD) as the popularised 8-week course in MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction)or MBCT (Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Depression). These are now used as the new and improved alternative to CBT, and incorporated into ACT (Acceptance and Committment Therapy), Dialectic Behavioural Therapy, and others. No previous experience is necessary for this class only a sense of curiosity, and perhaps an aspiration, intention and motivation towards your own waking up into well-being, happiness, and transformation. By Donation (suggested £5 if attending the following Yoga class. suggested £8 if only attending the meditation. The fee is to cover studio rental) Teacher Info Map
