Ruth White & Yoga Alliance SYT

Profile

2011 I achieved Yoga Alliance Senior YOga Teacher status. That has enabled me to open my own Yoga Teacher Training School. All information on the school is available from my website. I was born in Kampala, Uganda. Both my parents were from India. I was educated in Uganda up to the age of 15 and then attended high school and university in Vancouver, Canada. I came to the UK in early 1971 when I met and married my wife Coral. We have two sons and have lived in the Crowthorne and Bracknell areas since 1977. Early in my school days in Uganda, I was encouraged to practise yoga by my father. One of the disciplines he taught me that interested me the most was the art of defence with a wooden staff, known as Latti. This is a form of martial art using a 5 ft long staff and requires a strong and supple body. I started to practise yoga seriously in 1996, following an injury to my lower back (the result of a wrong move in a squash game). Since starting yoga I have chosen to do fewer gym sessions. In 1998 I met Ruth White, my inspirational and dynamic Iyengar yoga teacher. Ruth has practised with and been coached by Mr BKS Iyengar. I completed my yoga-teacher qualification with Ruth at the end of 2001. I continue to attend as many weekend sessions as I can with Ruth to continue to improve my knowledge of yoga. I am very interested in understanding the human body and how the regular practice of yoga can benefit and affect body, mind and spirit. I run several mixed abilities (beginners and intermediates) classes in the Crowthorne area and teach with emphasis on the effects of the postures on the body and the mind. There is a great demand for yoga in our area and I am always delighted to see new people come to my classes and connect with yoga and its benefits.
