I am teaching a seven session aerial yoga course based the seven main chakras. Chakras are centres of vital energy. There are seven main chakras located from the base of the spine up to the crown of the head. Each chakra is associated with a different energetic ways of being in the world. Below I will explain a little about each chakra.

Root Chakra (Muladara) is associated with your survival in the world. How grounded do you feel in your life? Are you taking care of your basic needs? It is located at the base of the spine. Some poses we can use to balance this chakra are mountain and chair pose.

Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana) is associated with emotions and sexuality. It is located in the lower abdomen. How emotionally stable do you feel? Are you able to express your sexuality in a balanced way? Some poses we can use to help balance this chakra are triangle and pelvic rock.

Solar plexus Chakra (Manipura) is associated with personal power, will, and self-esteem. Are you living the life you wish to lead? Do you feel content with your achievements? It is located at the solar plexus just below where the front of the rib cage ends. Some poses we can use to help balance this chakra are sitting forward bend and half spinal twist.

Heart Chakra (Anahata) is associated with love and compassion. Are you able to express your love and receive love from others in a balanced way? It is located over the sternum. Some poses we can use to help balance this chakra are cobra and bridge.

Throat Chakra (Vishudda) is associated with communication and self-expression. Are you able to communicate what you need to others, voice your opinions and stand up for yourself? Are you willing to listen to other people’s point of view? Are you able to express your creativity freely? It is located at the throat. Some poses we can used to help balance this chakra are shoulderstand and plough.

Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) is associated with intuition, imagination, and mystic powers. Do you listen to your intuition, that mysterious haunch you get from time to time? Are you obsessive in anyway with an over active imagination? It is located at the centre of the forehead. Some poses we can use to help balance this chakra are eye exercises and meditation

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) is associated with knowledge, understanding and transcendent consciousness. Are you able to let go and trust in some higher wisdom then yourself in times of difficulty? See link for further information.
